FAQ

What is the timeline for implementing the changes to boundaries that the Board of Trustees adopts?
Any changes will go into effect at the beginning of next school year: Fall of 2023.

Are all boundaries being evaluated, or only specific ones?
All boundaries have the potential to be adjusted. We will be looking at this from a District-wide lens.

Why now?
The opening of Del Sol High School in 2023 requires a new boundary to be drawn. We will also be analyzing existing boundaries for opportunities to balance enrollment across all schools.

Will phasing existing students (to remain at their current school) be considered?
Once a boundary plan is approved by the Board of Trustees, existing OUHSD students that reside in the new Del Sol High School boundary will be permitted to remain at their current high school. The 2022-23 8th grade class will be the only cohort expected to attend school using the new boundaries. Each year, a new 9th grade class will be added to the school.

What is the goal of this process? What are some of the factors that will be taken into consideration when looking at redistricting?
The goal of this process is to draw a boundary for the new Del Sol High School, as well as balance enrollment across the District.

What is the time frame that the possible attendance area change decision will be made?
According to our current timeline, the Board of Trustees will be voting at their regularly scheduled meeting at the end of October, 2022.

When will this go into effect? Will there be a public forum at some point?
Any attendance area changes associated with this process will go into effect in the Fall of 2023. Community meetings will be held October 10th & 11th. We will host in-person meetings, where community members can speak to District staff and the consultant, and learn more about the process and the attendance area options. If you are unable to attend these meetings, an online presentation and survey will be available for you to provide feedback. Even if you are not impacted by any option, we encourage you to still complete a survey. Your feedback will be used to craft a recommendation, so the more feedback the better.
